1	INTRODUCTION

At the time of release of the braille terminal functionality for the MPO5500, current Supernova/HAL versions do not support the MPO5500.
Users of existing Supernova/HAL versions that want to use the MPO as a braille terminal must follow the following installation instructions.

Note that these instructions are valid for Supernova/HAL versions 6.00 or higher, older versions of Supernova/HAL have not been tested. They will however work with the new drivers and keymaps, but the installation instructions below are different due to the different layout of the Control Panel in older versions of Supernova/HAL.

2	INSTRUCTIONS

2.1	UPDATING THE DRIVERS

- Install ActiveSync as delivered with this package:
  Please click on the "Install ActiveSync" hyperlink in the startup menu of this CD.
  This step can be skipped if ActiveSync version 3.7.1 or higher is already installed.

- Install the ABT drivers from this disk:
  Please click on the "Install the ALVA braille terminal drivers" hyperlink in the startup menu of this CD, and follow the instructions.

- Install Supernova/HAL, Orpheus and SAM.

- Replace the abt.dll and abtsam.dll drivers in the SAM\ABTSAM sub-folder of the installation folder (usually "c:\Program Files\Dolphin\SAM\ABTSAM), with abt.dll from the "\ABT Drivers\Drivers", and abtsam.dll from the "\ABT Drivers\Dolphin" folder of this CD.

Note: These drivers can only be replaced when Supernova/HAL is not running. So please ask a sighted person to assist you with this step.

2.2 CHANGING THE Supernova/HAL KEYMAP

At this point Supernova/HAL is capable of recognizing the display, but the MPO5500 will act as an ALVA Satellite display with limited functionality.
To profit from the full MPO functionality, Supernova/HAL has to be "told" which keys or key combination should perform a certain function.

The following functions will be available without any further configuration:

Supernova/HAL function		= MPO Keys
Go To Focus			= Menu
Line Up				= Cursor Up
Line Up (Virtual Focus) = Cursor Up
Line Down			= Cursor Down
Line Down (Virtual Focus)	= Cursor Down
Cell Left			= Cursor Left
Cell Right			= Cursor Right
Line Start = Disconnect + Previous View
Line End = Disconnect + Next View
Top				= Disconnect
Bottom				= Disconnect + OK
Forward				= Next View
Back				= Previous View

Besides of creating your own keymaps, you can use a predefined keymap that we already created for you. To install this keymap, please follow the next instructions.

- Copy the MPO.BK1 file from the cdrom (\Abt Drivers\Dolphin) into the Defaults folder of Supernova/HAL on your harddisk, usually: c:\Program Files\Dolphin\HAL\Defaults.

- Open the Supernova/HAL Control Panel and select "Hot Keys..." from the Configuration menu.

- Tab to the "Braille button defaults" button and press enter.

- Tab to the "OK" button to leave the hotkey dialog.

From now on the new braille keymap will be available. You can modify this keymap and store your own map, but the ALVA keymap will always be restored after pressing the "Braille button defaults" button in the hotkey dialog.

3	RUNNING Supernova/HAL WITH THE MPO5500

If you are using the MPO5500 for the first time with Supernova/HAL, you should use the SAM configuration to detect the MPO5500. Please follow the next instructions.

- Start Supernova/HAL (you will only have speech)

- Connect the MPO5500 with the USB cable.

- Power on the MPO5500 and wait for the ActiveSync application to pop-up.

- Perform the necessary steps to complete the ActiveSync connection.

- Start the braille terminal application on the MPO5500. A message, "remark: Connected" will be spoken and shown on the MPO5500.

- Activate the Supernova/HAL control panel.

- Choose "SAM Setup..." from the Configuration dropdown menu.

- Tab to the "Select all devices now" button and press enter.

- A message will tell you to press enter, make hardware changes (we already did this), and press enter again. So press the enter key twice, and wait for Supernova/HAL to speak again.
  Note: During this detection the MPO5500 can loose its connection, but it will connect again after a short while.

- Tab to the "Close" button and press enter.

- In the Supernova/HAL configuration panel, open the "Configuration" menu and select "Braille Display...".

- The focus will be on the "Select Braille Display" button, so press enter.

- Use the arrow keys to select "ALVA Braille Terminal" and press enter.
  By now, there should be Supernova/HAL braille output on the MPO5500.

- Tab to the "Close" button and press enter.

If you already configured Supernova/HAL for use with the MPO5500, do the following to use the MPO5500 as a braille terminal.

- Connect the MPO5500 with the USB cable.

- Power on the MPO5500 and wait for the ActiveSync connection.

- Start the Terminal program on the MPO5500 (Utilities). The MPO will show: ": Waiting for connection".

- Start Supernova/HAL.

- The MPO5500 will speak the message: "Connected", and the braille display will show the Supernova/HAL braille output.

The document "ALVA MPO Braille terminal Keyboard layout for Supernova/HAL.txt" shows the keyboard mapping of the MPO in combination with Supernova/HAL when the MPO.BK1 file is installed.
